INITIAL IDEA 2 DEVELOPMENT

SIMPLE FORMS AND SHAPES
= More traditional flag format
= May not communicate the message as effectively on its own
= Would work successfully only when paired with photography to present message
= Means needing the photos to be at the forefront of the campaign
= Perhaps the flag could be the photograph? Although this feels slightly convoluted
= Can try coming up with some simple designs that present the message on their own and then could be paired with photography for extra effect

= How can I show women's tennis through this without having to draw on stereotypical symbols and references?
> Typography
> Small text in one place referring to women

= Forms in tennis and the olympics that can be used as reference

SIMPLE SYMBOL IDEAS

= Doesn't reference women at all = problem
= Lines and strong colour reflects tennis well in a deconstructed tennis aesthetic = Like a flag
= Green colours was the only way for this more abstract tennis representation to be recognisable

= Second development is more successful with the lines inside the circle as the tennis ball form is more obvious
= Kept all the lines sharp and bold for strong style to reflect the sport and its qualities, apart from the tennis ball lines for character and variety and to reflect movement

= Different colour not as clear

= If the colour can't deviate from green then a gradient could be the way forward in bringing in other colours and to make the design a little less simple and 2D

= Effectively references women and tennis
= Doesn't have a particularly strong tone, very 'gender neutral'
= Doesn't create a strong emotional response towards the issue however
= Not sure other women symbols will work without the use of the ball of each sport being in the circular eye of the symbol
= Would have to change the canoeing sport choice and keep exactly the same structure with the court representation and sport ball centralised

TYPE IDEAS
= Wording needs to create excitement for the return of the womens sports in the olympics
= Simple 'to return' suggests this and creates some mystery which the viewer can work out if they look at the imagery and piece it together
= Original sketch idea with the tennis ball resting on the edge of the court as a central focus
= Women reference presented through the female symbol as a shadow of the ball = subtle

= Strong fonts chosen = Strong, bold, presents the sport appropriately
= Alternation between two fonts does feel slightly messy = might be better to keep one font and change to italic for alternate lines

= Lines around the design rather than a block in the corner emphasise movement more and therefore reflects the feeling of the game better
= These lines could be used when approaching the third initial idea

Production Problems

As looking for alternative printing methods was the only way to produce the outcomes physically, the sticker pages were created and sent off...
