= After peer feedback that the orientation of the woman in the rugby flag was wrong with the size and placement of the ball, I was careful to find an image which would depict the footballer hitting the ball towards the viewer, which is what would make the ball larger in perspective
= Football felt more appropriate than canoeing as this meant all flags would follow a ball theme, and meant the design structure of having a larger perspective focus top left worked consistently
> Having t work from photos meant I would be limited in what I could draw from in canoeing (unlikely to find a picture which would match what I wanted in the design)
= When designing the last flag alongside the other completed designs, it draws your attention to what is different and therefore visually inconsistent
= eg. shadow in the tennis design
= This may only be necessary for the tennis design as it is a high perspective image, so a shadow would be more likely, however I attempted to create my own for the football one and lowered opacity so it doesn't get too much focus
= As it would be in the grass this would be slightly less defined than one on a tennis court so I think it works
= The rugby one doesn't need a shadow as there are two people present which would hide the shadow
= Lines in the background are again used to reflect the manoeuvres and movement within the sport, and the circles as the football movements (eg. right = head hit, bottom left = dribbling)
= Less colours in this as the outfit is in the Olympics England white like the rugby
= This isn't the same for the tennis piece, should I change her outfit to white? Or Maybe their outfits could be made more colourful?
= Previous peer feedback had people confused whether it was actually a woman or man depicted in the rugby design
= Don't want to have to change the women's choices of appearance to become more 'feminine' in what people expect women to look like, but realised that unless they look like women to most people, it will be assumed that it refers to men in sport
> Gave the woman on the right in the rugby design a ponytail
= Canvas bags? To be carried around? What item would get the most publicity when used?
= Bags present an image clearly and in a large format
= Only so much design you can put on a water bottle or pin
= Maybe a simplified design could be put onto smaller items?
CENTRAL POINT OF ESSAY IS PUBLICITY
> I need these to actually create publicity around women in sport, even if it is subtle
> Is this going to be accomplished through
1. other items alongside this or
2. pushing this product and designs on its own in a campaign
3. both?
> How far do I take this aim? Ask people to post about it? Post on sport pages? Tweet at eg. Serena Williams?
PEER FEEDBACK
= Animations of flags for digital publicity
= Stickers or match attack cards for younger audience? = olympic merchandise
= t-shirts instead of canvas bags = more wear, more publicity
= recreate olympic mascot as gender neutral? (direction of project not towards gender neutral specifically so this might get more complicated and with limited time frame not achievable)
= Showing how all of these would be used to promote publicity, not necessarily having to actually create publicity
